X-Fab Launches Cutting-Edge Silicon Carbide Foundry Service in Texas

X-Fab has partnered with Soitec to provide silicon carbide foundry services at its facility in Lubbock, Texas. They are using 150mm wafers, known as ‘SmartSiC’. These wafers are created by slicing a thin layer of mono-crystalline silicon carbide from a thick donor wafer and bonding it to a low-resistivity polycrystalline silicon carbide base. Impressively, one donor wafer can yield up to 10 thin mono-crystalline wafers.
