Visic Secures $10 Million to Propel GaN Advancements

Gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductor company, Visic Technologies, has successfully raised $10 million in a series D funding round led by a private investor. Visic’s technology is mostly utilized in electric vehicles.

The shift to electric vehicles has been accelerating rapidly and is expected to continue growing. GaN power devices significantly enhance the performance of high-power, high-voltage power systems in hybrid and electric cars. These improvements in the size, weight, efficiency, and heat management of components like on-board chargers and DC-DC converters result in faster charging times and longer driving ranges.

GaN power devices are also making waves in other industries, like telecommunications and data centers, by increasing the efficiency and density of high-performance power supplies. This results in reduced electricity costs for operators.

“GaN technology is revolutionizing power electronics by pushing the performance limits and enabling new design topologies,” said Ivan Feno, a principal power design engineer at Bel Power. “We’re thrilled to see Visic providing durable GaN devices with minimal fast transient dynamic RDSon.”

The insulated thermal pad boosts the reliability and density of the power stage. Feno also mentioned that 1.2kV GaN devices could become a compelling alternative to the SiC technology that currently dominates the 1.2kV segment.

Visic’s innovative technology, combined with R&D efforts from major players in the power electronics industry, has attracted favorable investment terms for this funding round.

“We’re thrilled by the enthusiasm of our investor, who recognizes the immense potential of Visic’s GaN products,” said Tamara Baksht, the founder and CEO of Visic Technologies. “With this new funding, we can expand our product portfolio to reach more market segments and grow our technical support team to better serve our worldwide customers.”

Founded in 2010 and based in Nes Ziona, Israel, Visic Technologies specializes in developing and selling GaN-based power conversion products. They are now marketing high-power GaN transistors and modules that they have developed.
