Vishay Unveils Cutting-Edge Haptic Feedback Actuator for Advanced Automotive HMIs
Vishay Intertechnology has launched a new haptic feedback actuator that’s perfect for automotive applications, particularly for LCDs, touchscreens, and touch switches. This device, named Custom Magnetics IHPT-1411AF-ABA, operates at 12V and is AEC-Q200 qualified, meaning it meets high-quality standards suitable for automotive use.
The actuator has a simple two-piece design with mounting holes, making installation straightforward. It’s capable of creating strong pulses and vibrations, providing clear tactile feedback even in noisy environments. By converting electrical energy into mechanical movements, it helps users interact with touch-based systems more effectively. You can control the intensity and type of feedback by adjusting the input voltage and duty cycle.
The innovative haptic coil assembly creates a magnetic field when activated by a DC voltage pulse, which then moves a dynamic core piece. Once the voltage is turned off, springs or elastic materials return the core piece to its starting position, ready for the next interaction.
With a quick response time of under 5 milliseconds, the device can produce a range of detailed haptic effects using operating voltages of up to 16V. It’s designed to function in tough conditions with temperatures going up to +105˚C, making it suitable for various in-vehicle applications like dashboards, center consoles, and touchscreens. It also enhances tactile feedback for components like electronic shift transmissions, steering wheels, and seats.
Designers will appreciate the ease of integrating return springs into their setups, as the bobbin and core components are simple yet effective. Additionally, the device’s 12V operation eliminates the need for more complex high-voltage supplies, offering a cost-effective solution that reduces component height while enhancing force density.
This actuator can handle a 0.5kg load to achieve 6g of acceleration with a 12V, 5ms pulse, outperforming some technologies that can only manage 0.1 to 0.2kg at the same acceleration. The driving coil features a 1.8mH inductance, a DCR of 0.95Ω, and can withstand a 150V DC dielectric voltage.
It’s RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and meets Vishay’s Green standards. The actuator comes with standard lead terminations dipped in 100% tin solder, but Vishay can customize aspects like mounting orientation, termination types, and performance to fit specific needs.
Both samples and production quantities are available now, with a lead time of about 12 weeks.
