Venturi Formula E Chooses Rohm’s Cutting-Edge SiC Technology
The Venturi Formula E Team has teamed up with Japanese semiconductor company Rohm Semiconductor. This partnership, which was announced just before this weekend’s first-ever EDF Paris ePrix event, will integrate silicon carbide (SiC) technology into Venturi Formula E cars starting from season three.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the top SiC company and exclusively use Rohm’s cutting-edge technology in our cars next season,” said Gildo Pallanca Pastor, the owner of Venturi Automobiles. “SiC helps us improve both the thermal efficiency and electronic performance of our inverters, allowing us to achieve higher motor speeds.”
Rohm’s research and development team is collaborating with Venturi engineers and their partner McLaren to enhance the inverter for season three, with a focus on boosting efficiency, optimization, and performance.
Next week, Rohm will showcase a Venturi Formula E display car at the Hannover Messe trade fair. They will also exhibit an inverter to demonstrate how SiC technology will be utilized within the Venturi-designed powertrain for FIA Formula E racing.
“The FIA Formula E series is perfect for Rohm to highlight our leading role in SiC technology to the automotive industry,” said Christian Andre, CEO of Rohm Europe. “We’ve meticulously developed our SiC products to grow our presence in the automotive market. Partnering with the Venturi Formula E team allows us to demonstrate our skills to a relevant and rapidly expanding audience. Venturi’s expertise in high-performance electric vehicles makes them the ideal partner for us, and we share a similar vision for advancing EV powertrains.”
