R&S Delivers Cutting-Edge Automotive Ethernet Tester to University of New Hampshire

Rohde & Schwarz has supplied the University of New Hampshire’s Interoperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) with an Automotive Ethernet tester. As a result, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), tier one and two suppliers, and system integrators can now submit their products for compliance testing certification at the lab.

UNH-IOL is the first testing lab accredited by the Open Alliance to offer certification for Automotive Ethernet. Their testing platform provides access to 100baseT1 and 1000baseT1 compliance tests, which include testing for physical layers (phy) and electronic control units (ECUs).

Companies that are members of the UNH-IOL can take advantage of the lab’s custom test equipment and software. Chipset manufacturers can test their 100 and 1000baseT1 products according to TC8 Open Alliance test standards, all within one facility.

Rohde & Schwarz was the first testing and measurement (T&M) manufacturer to validate all layer-one phy test cases for 1000baseT1. Since 2012, UNH-IOL has used Rohde & Schwarz’s R&S RTO2044 oscilloscope and R&S ZND vector network analyzer in various automotive-specific test services.

Nik Dimitrakopoulos, market segment manager for automotive at Rohde & Schwarz, expressed enthusiasm about their collaboration with UNH-IOL. He mentioned that partnering with UNH-IOL to provide T&M solutions for Automotive Ethernet compliance testing opens up exciting opportunities. Dimitrakopoulos emphasized that UNH-IOL is a key partner and that they are committed to addressing both current and future needs in the Automotive Ethernet market.

Curtis Donahue, senior manager of Automotive Ethernet technologies at UNH-IOL, shared his excitement about the new R&S RTO2044 oscilloscope and R&S ZND vector network analyzer added to their automotive test bed. Donahue highlighted that this ongoing partnership with Rohde & Schwarz enhances their testing services for 100 and 1000baseT1 products. It also positions UNH-IOL to offer testing for upcoming Automotive Ethernet technologies, such as the 10baseT1S phy, which is currently under development by the IEEE.
