Mouser Electronics Soars with Dragon’s Arrival in Zurich
Motor racing is making a comeback in Switzerland this Sunday, June 10, 2018, after a 64-year hiatus, and the Dragon team, sponsored by Mouser Electronics, is ready to compete for the win.
This weekend marks the tenth round of the 2018 ABB FIA Formula E championship, taking place on the streets of Zurich, Switzerland’s largest city. The course is relatively short at 2.4 km but features two long straights where we might see some speed records broken.
The ABB Formula E championship highlights cars powered entirely by electricity, showcasing a future vision for the motorsports industry and promoting zero-emission vehicle development. Racing is all about speed and endurance, and Mouser believes that sponsoring races is an innovative way to highlight their performance-driven business model and showcase the latest technologies from their manufacturing partners.
This year, the Mouser-sponsored cars are driven by single-seater expert Jerome D’Ambrosio and three-time FIA WTCC drivers’ champion José María López. This season marks the fourth year both of the ABB FIA Formula E championship and Mouser Electronics’ sponsorship of the Dragon team, in partnership with Molex and TTI.
“Formula E is leading the way in the electric car revolution, and Mouser is very proud to play a part in developing sustainable transportation worldwide,” said Todd McAtee, a vice president at Mouser Electronics. “We’re excited to team up with Molex and TTI to promote this groundbreaking technology.”
Switzerland originally banned motor racing in 1954 due to safety concerns. However, with today’s advancements in vehicle safety, sustainability, and the technology of all-electric racing, the Swiss government has lifted the ban.
Fred Bell, vice president of Molex, added, “Molex is thrilled to continue our cooperation with Mouser and TTI in sponsoring the Dragon team. We’re dedicated to innovative technology and advancing the industry.”
Mike Morton, TTI’s chief operating officer, commented, “TTI is eager to collaborate with Mouser and Molex in supporting the Dragon team and this pioneering automotive technology.”
Fans can cheer for D’Ambrosio and López by participating in Fanboost, an initiative allowing fans to influence race outcomes. Through Fanboost, fans vote for their favorite driver to give them an extra power boost during the race. The top three drivers with the most votes get a significant power surge, which they can use during a five-second window in the race’s second half. Voting starts six days before the race and remains open until six minutes into the race.
Next up after Zurich, the series moves to the Brooklyn Circuit in New York City for the season-finale doubleheader on July 14 and 15.
