LynxSecure Now Optimized for Kontron’s In-Vehicle Computing Systems

Lynx Software Technologies has successfully adapted LynxSecure to work with the Kontron EvoTrac G103, an in-vehicle gateway equipped with cellular and WiFi capabilities, built on a sturdy Intel Atom platform. This has been done to provide connectivity for commercial and specialized vehicles.

The G103’s connectivity features allow for managing vehicles, remote access, and cloud-based applications, especially useful in the automotive aftermarket, off-highway, and fleet management sectors. It gives operators easy access to critical information, helping to ensure driver safety, reduce fuel consumption, and manage maintenance costs efficiently.

Lee Cresswell, VP of global sales at Lynx, explained that Lynx has collaborated with Etas and Robert Bosch to deploy LynxSecure as the secure hypervisor for the Etas RTA-VRTE software, which follows the Autosar Adaptive platform standard. Bringing LynxSecure to the Kontron EvoTrac G103 makes this high-quality automotive technology available for developers creating innovative connected vehicle applications.

LynxSecure uses hardware virtualization, allowing developers to consolidate different system functions onto platforms like the EvoTrac G103. It supports building modular systems that can handle bare metal, real-time, and general-purpose operating system tasks. Unlike general-purpose operating systems and hypervisors, LynxSecure has a minimal attack surface and hardware-supported separation to keep vital interfaces, like the Can bus, securely isolated from the cellular interface.

Valentin Scinteie, Kontron’s transportation business development manager, highlighted that the EvoTrac G103 gateway offers significant computing performance and connectivity in a compact, rugged platform tested for extreme conditions. Partnering with Lynx, they can deliver software that is just as robust and protected as their hardware, ensuring secure separation and protection from malicious attacks.
