London Taxis to Come Equipped with Preinstalled Geotab Telematics

Geotab’s commercial vehicle telematics will come pre-installed in every new electric TX taxi and VN5 van from the London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC).

LEVC has teamed up with Geotab, a specialist in IoT and connected transportation, to provide fleet management systems for these electric vehicles. The telematics system sends information from the vehicle’s onboard electronics to the cloud, allowing users to access it on their devices or computers. This setup enables users to monitor, compare, and control their vehicles’ operations using the MyGeotab dashboard.

For the first 12 months, LEVC is offering free access to the MyGeotab dashboard, which usually costs £300 per vehicle annually. After this period, users can opt to continue the service by subscribing. The system provides real-time data on battery charge, mileage, driver behavior, and vehicle usage. This information helps fleet managers save on energy costs by choosing the most cost-effective charging options and optimizing routes and driving speeds for better fuel efficiency.

The MyGeotab dashboard features various tools and customizable reports that turn vehicle data into actionable insights, helping users optimize vehicle use, reduce unexpected downtime, and lower charging costs. If needed, data from Geotab can also be integrated into other existing telematics dashboards.

Through the Geotab Marketplace, LEVC customers can access additional hardware and software products for a tailored system that meets specific business needs.

According to LEVC CEO Joerg Hoffman, the VN5 van and TX taxi stand out for their electric drive and range, making them perfect for a full day’s work without recharging. He expressed excitement about the partnership with Geotab, believing it will further enhance vehicle efficiency for customers.

David Savage, Geotab’s vice president, emphasized that meaningful data analysis and visualization are crucial. He noted that the integration with LEVC allows their vehicles to be fully connected, visible in MyGeotab from nearly anywhere in the world. Savage praised LEVC’s commitment to customer satisfaction and safety, expressing optimism about the partnership’s future.

LEVC’s electric TX taxi reduces range anxiety and CO2 emissions while enhancing profitability through its eCity technology. It boasts an electric-only range of 103 km and a total range of up to 511 km thanks to range-extending technology. The TX taxi is inclusive and accessible, featuring a forward-facing position for wheelchair users and space for up to six passengers.

The VN5 van uses the same architecture and eCity technology as the TX taxi. It offers an electric-only range of over 96 km and a total range of 490 km, making it ideal for zero-emission urban deliveries and longer trips outside town. It caters to more budget-conscious drivers too.
