LG and Luxoft Launch Game-Changing WebOs Auto Joint Venture

LG Electronics and Luxoft, a part of DXC Technology, have teamed up to enhance and expand the WebOs Auto platform for use in ready-to-go automotive systems.

Last week, during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, IP Park, LG’s president and CTO, and Dmitry Loschinin, Luxoft’s CEO and executive VP of DXC Technology, officially signed the agreement. The new venture will be headquartered in Santa Clara, California, and is set to begin operations in the first quarter of 2020. The management team will be announced at that time.

Through this partnership, LG and Luxoft aim to improve digital cockpit systems, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems, rear-seat entertainment, and ride-hailing systems using the WebOs Auto platform. They plan to make these solutions available to car manufacturers, fleet operators, and shared mobility services.

The WebOs Auto platform from LG offers a host of features, including multimedia processing, control over multiple displays, connectivity, and security, all designed to enhance comfort and convenience for both passengers and drivers. The venture will also benefit from Luxoft’s extensive global engineering network.

“Our joint venture with Luxoft aims to strengthen LG’s automotive IVI platform and speed up the advent of connected vehicles by leveraging new technologies,” said Park. “We will continue to evolve the WebOs Auto ecosystem by offering a variety of services in partnership with more companies.”

LG, known for its WebOs platform found in over 70 million smart TVs worldwide, is transforming the living room with this advanced user experience in the TV industry. Now, with WebOs Auto, the same level of intelligent services and content streaming is being brought to the automotive sector, offering a user-friendly experience inside vehicles.

“This new venture showcases Luxoft’s strength in designing, developing, and deploying large-scale digital cockpits and connected mobility solutions based on open platforms,” Loschinin said. “The combined expertise of LG and Luxoft will create a powerful synergy to roll out the WebOs Auto platform, providing digital, consumer-grade experiences for automakers and their partners.”

This exciting collaboration brings together key figures from both companies and marks a significant step forward in the automotive technology landscape.
