Intel Unveils Groundbreaking Lunar Lake Architecture for Sleek and Lightweight PCs

At Computex 2024, Intel introduced its latest AI-focused PC processors, called Lunar Lake. These are designed to be both powerful and energy-efficient, especially for thin and light laptops.

The Lunar Lake processors feature a mix of Performance-cores (P-cores) and Efficient-cores (E-cores), combining strong performance with excellent energy efficiency. They come equipped with a fourth-generation neural processing unit that delivers up to 48 trillion operations per second (TOPs) of AI performance, which is four times better than the previous generation.

The new GPU, code-named Battlemage, includes the X22 graphics core and Xe Matrix Extension (XMX) arrays for improved AI capabilities. This GPU boosts gaming performance and AI processing throughput, offering more than 60 TOPs. The display and media engines have also been upgraded with a new microarchitecture for better performance.

The Platform Controller tile adds enhanced security and connectivity features, including Wi-Fi 7.0, Bluetooth 5.4, PCIe Gen5 and Gen4 ports, and Thunderbolt 4 ports.

Intel has started shipping these processors in large quantities and expects Lunar Lake to be used in over 80 different AI-enabled PC designs from 20 manufacturers. They aim to deploy more than 40 million Core Ultra processors this year.
