Harman and Airbiquity Join Forces to Revolutionize Connected Car Security

At the recent TU-Automotive conference in Munich, Harman and Airbiquity unveiled a comprehensive intrusion detection system for connected cars. As software becomes more integral to vehicle functions, the risk of cyber threats has grown, especially with advancements in driver assistance, vehicle-to-vehicle communications, and autonomous driving.

Harman and Airbiquity have combined their strengths to address these security concerns. Harman’s in-vehicle intrusion detection and prevention system is now integrated with Airbiquity’s cloud-based Choreo service delivery platform. This collaboration aims to offer unmatched security threat detection and response for car manufacturers and users.

Harman’s Ecushield software works by continuously monitoring and identifying security threats within the vehicle’s internal network. When a security breach is detected, this system logs the intrusion, which is then collected and analyzed by Airbiquity’s Choreo platform. The cloud-based system generates automated alerts and reports, enabling users to quickly respond and update vehicle software to protect against further threats.

Saar Dickman, vice president at Harman, emphasized the importance of security in the era of connected and autonomous vehicles. He mentioned that car hacking is a significant concern and noted the partnership with Airbiquity as a major step forward in vehicle security. The combined technologies of Harman and Airbiquity provide the first end-to-end intrusion detection system, which aims to ensure vehicle safety and security.

Kamyar Moinzadeh, president and CEO of Airbiquity, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the enhanced ability to deliver secure connected vehicle services through this collaboration. He stressed that threat detection should be a fundamental aspect of any connected vehicle system.

The Choreo platform plays a key role by integrating various vehicle systems, connectivity devices, communication networks, and IT systems. It securely manages and automates software updates and data collection, ensuring the connected vehicles remain up-to-date and protected against threats.
