Bosch and Safelite Revolutionize ADAS Windscreen Camera Recalibration

US-based Safelite Autoglass is partnering with Bosch to introduce new recalibration tools for ADAS cameras that are built into windshields. This collaboration aims to make it easier to reset these cameras whenever a windshield needs replacement.

Safelite has announced that these recalibration tools will be rolled out this fall, with plans to have them available in at least one location in each of their markets by year-end. The tools have undergone testing and are anticipated to be compatible with around 90% of vehicle models by mid-2017.

“We prioritize the safety of our customers,” said Tom Feeney, Safelite’s president and CEO. “These new tools provide a convenient, one-stop solution for windshield replacement and recalibration, handled by our expert technicians.”

ADAS features are now common in many everyday cars, not just luxury models. In the U.S. alone, there are currently 800 different types of ADAS windshields, and this number continues to grow.

The recalibration tools are tailored to meet the diverse needs of various vehicle makes and models. Safelite is also ensuring that their technicians are fully trained to perform all types of recalibration.

“This is a major investment for us,” Feeney added. “As industry leaders, we feel it’s our responsibility to be at the forefront of meeting this new market demand. Our customers, along with our insurance and fleet clients, can count on us to stay ahead in this rapidly evolving technology.”

Safelite AutoGlass boasts that it is the largest vehicle glass repair and replacement service provider in the U.S., with over 6,800 Mobile GlassShops and company stores across all 50 states. Last year, nearly five million customers chose Safelite for their national, 24/7 contact centers, online scheduling options, repair and replacement services, and nationwide lifetime guarantee.

Founded in 1947 and headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, Safelite employs nearly 13,000 people across the country.
