Analog Devices Backs the Thrilling Journey of Team Wob-Racing

Analog Devices (ADI) is proud to sponsor Team Wob-Racing’s latest Formula Student race car, the WR17. As a platinum sponsor, ADI supports the budding engineering talent shaping the future of the automotive industry. The WR17 race car features numerous ADI technologies within its electric vehicle powertrain, including the inverter assembly and battery management system.

Team Wob-Racing, established 20 years ago by students from the Faculty of Automotive Engineering at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, is one of Germany’s oldest Formula Student racing teams. In 2011, the team shifted its focus to designing electric vehicles.

Their newest model, the WR17, is the team’s most optimized design to date, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.2 seconds. Efficient energy management is crucial for enhancing the performance and range of electric vehicles. One of the team’s significant innovations includes the in-house development of inverters, which, along with the battery management system, play a vital role in the race car. These components heavily utilize ADI parts, and the team leveraged an axle test rig from sponsor Bertrandt to fine-tune the electronic system’s controls.

Felix Veltmaat, the technical leader at Team Wob-Racing, emphasized the importance of reliability and quick availability of electronic components in their one-year development cycle. He praised ADI’s high-quality and extensive product range, which seamlessly integrated into almost every electronic assembly of the WR17.

Shalini Palmer, corporate vice president at ADI, expressed her admiration for the students’ innovative engineering. She highlighted the significance of collaboration in fostering new talent and accelerating towards a sustainable future. Palmer reiterated ADI’s commitment to investing in the future workforce and their pride in sponsoring Team Wob-Racing.
