Intel and Mobileye Drive Spain Towards an Autonomous Future

Intel’s subsidiary Mobileye and Spain’s Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) are teaming up to decrease road accidents and get Spain ready for autonomous vehicles. They’ll work together to highlight the advantages of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) for both public and private vehicles, aiming to boost road safety across the country. This partnership will involve joint research to measure how effective and accurate Mobileye 8 Connect is in enhancing safety.

To push their Vision Zero initiative—which aims for zero road fatalities—the DGT will promote autonomous driving. They’re also gearing up to regulate autonomous vehicles and will spearhead alliances across different industries to make Spain a leader in autonomous vehicle readiness.

Mobileye 8 Connect doesn’t just prevent accidents with real-time alerts; it also gathers valuable data on city streets, noting things like infrastructure issues, accident hotspots, and other potential dangers. This data will be analyzed by the DGT and other authorities to prepare Spain’s roads for both semi- and fully autonomous vehicles. It will also help to update Mobileye’s RoadBook, which uses REM Road Experience Management for mapping.

Moreover, the collected data will support other research and development projects aimed at further improving road safety. Jaime Moreno, the DGT’s deputy director for mobility management, mentioned that this collaboration helps Spain understand and navigate the significant changes and opportunities in road safety and mobility.

Mobileye and the DGT will also work on the necessary regulations for an autonomous future. They plan to create a policy framework to validate the safety of autonomous vehicles using Mobileye’s RSS (Responsibility Sensitive Safety) model, which sets clear and measurable safety standards for self-driving cars.

Gil Ayalon, a director at Mobileye, praised the DGT for its forward-thinking efforts to prepare Spain for autonomous vehicles. He expressed honor at Mobileye being a trusted partner in this initiative and commended the DGT’s innovative approach to designing the future of transportation in Spain.

This collaboration highlights Spain’s push to become a global leader in road safety through tech innovation and strengthens Mobileye’s presence in the country. Mobileye also plans to test and train Level 4 SAE autonomous vehicles in various locations around the world, including Spain.
