Cancellation of the Electronica Event

The Electronica trade fair, originally scheduled to take place in Munich this November, has been canceled. Instead, Messe München, the event organizer, announced that it will transition to an online format for this year, becoming Electronica Virtual.

Due to tightening travel restrictions across Europe, Messe München decided to host the entire event virtually. The new format will feature an online conference program and digital trade fair booths for exhibitors. This approach aims to maintain international interaction and networking opportunities despite the constraints. Much of the event, including a robust conference program, will be available in this digital setting.

Falk Senger, managing director of Messe München, explained, “Although we had a solid safety and hygiene plan for an in-person event, the increasing travel restrictions made it impossible to meet the high expectations of our international exhibitors and visitors. Shifting to a virtual event is our way of adapting to these changes and focusing on what we can deliver effectively.”

The transition to a virtual event reflects Messe München’s response to the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic. Hosting Electronica in person would have significantly impacted its global nature and reach because of the current travel bans. Kurt Sievers, CEO of NXP Semiconductors and chair of the Electronica Advisory Board, supports this decision. He highlighted that Electronica Virtual offers a valuable opportunity for exhibitors and attendees to connect globally, share innovations, and stay updated on industry trends.

The virtual event will include digital trade fair booths, online discussions, and panels on trending topics like the automotive industry, embedded systems, IIoT, 5G, medical electronics, and smart energy. Christoph Stoppok, head of components, mobility, and systems at the German Electrical & Electronic Manufacturers’ Association, emphasized the importance of using this virtual format to drive dialogue and industry innovations during these challenging times.

By moving to a fully virtual platform, Electronica aims to continue supporting the electronics industry with a global discussion platform, even amid the pandemic.
