AI Adoption Progresses at a Snail's Pace

A survey conducted by Oxford University and Reuters Institute questioned 12,000 people from Argentina, Denmark, France, Japan, the UK, and the USA. It revealed that ChatGPT is the most recognized generative AI product, with around half of the online population in these six countries being aware of it.

Despite its recognition, regular use of ChatGPT remains low. Only 1% of people in Japan use it daily, while the figures are slightly higher in France and the UK (2%) and the USA (7%).

Many users of generative AI tools, including ChatGPT, reported using them only once or twice, indicating that these tools are not yet a regular part of everyday internet activities.

Among young adults aged 18 to 24, 56% have used ChatGPT at least once, compared to just 16% of those aged 55 and older.

Across the surveyed countries, similar numbers of people reported using generative AI for obtaining information (24%) and for creating various types of media like text, audio, code, images, and video (28%).

Only 5% of respondents across the six countries have used generative AI for accessing the latest news.

Interestingly, between 20% and 30% of those surveyed had not heard of any popular AI tools at all.
