Cenex-LCV: Revolutionizing Transportation with Cutting-Edge Data Solutions

At the Cenex Low Carbon Vehicle event in the UK today, the Transport Systems Catapult (TSC) introduced a groundbreaking data facility to tackle transport challenges. This new platform, called the Intelligent Mobility Data Hub (IMDH), offers a secure space where transport organizations can access and analyze various data sources.

The IMDH is a neutral and protected platform that houses valuable data from government bodies, transport companies, and technology firms. It provides insights into UK road travel and haulage patterns, helping businesses to innovate by working with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and research institutions. For the first time, existing data sets can be combined to find solutions to issues like congestion, pollution, and journey planning.

Partners using the facility benefit from IT infrastructure for data analysis and support from a team of specialists. The platform also ensures secure storage and legal measures to protect privacy and uphold commercial confidentiality.

The launch comes on the heels of a TSC statement highlighting that innovation in transport is at risk due to the lack of data sharing in the sector. A report by the TSC, with analysis from the Open Data Institute (ODI) and Deloitte, revealed that better use of data could yield £14 billion in benefits for the UK.

Paul Campion, CEO of the TSC, emphasized that data is crucial for transport innovation but often remains inaccessible due to commercial and technical barriers. “By leveraging TSC’s role as a neutral, trusted broker, the new hub allows the UK transport industry to take a significant step forward. It enables the analysis and combination of large data sets in a secure setting, opening the door to new services for travelers and innovations previously out of reach,” he said.
