Kia Set to Ignite Emotions at CES 2023
Kia Motors is set to showcase a variety of new technologies that look beyond the era of autonomous driving at next month’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Their interactive exhibit, called the Space of Emotive Driving, envisions a future where autonomous vehicles are common, aiming to enhance the human mobility experience.
A highlight of this exhibit is Kia’s new Real-time Emotion Adaptive Driving (Read) system. Developed in collaboration with MIT’s Media Lab’s affective computing group, the Read system uses AI-based technology to monitor and analyze a driver’s emotional state in real time. By doing so, it can customize the car’s interior environment to fit the driver’s mood, making driving more enjoyable.
Albert Biermann, the president and head of Kia’s research and development division, explained that the Read system blends advanced vehicle control technology with AI to create a smarter, emotionally responsive in-car experience. The system ensures constant, non-verbal communication between the driver and the vehicle, tailoring the cabin space to suit the driver’s feelings instantly.
In addition to the Read system, Kia’s CES exhibit will introduce other innovative in-car and mobility technologies related to the emotive driving concept. More details about these technologies will be shared leading up to the January 2019 event.
To give visitors a closer look at these advancements, Kia will offer 15-minute tours at their stand throughout the show. These tours are designed to provide attendees with a deeper understanding of the technologies on display.
