Arrival Selects Ambarella to Power Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

Electric vehicle company Arrival is teaming up with Ambarella to utilize their AI vision processor for autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Arrival will integrate the Ambarella CV2FS CVflow AI vision processor into the environmental perception module for all of its vehicles. This technology will enhance the autonomous driving capabilities of Arrival’s buses and vans.

Arrival aims to make electric vehicles more common worldwide by producing cost-effective commercial vehicles and collaborating with cities and governments to improve transportation. The ADAS features will provide essential safety and convenience functions for commercial vehicles, including lane departure warnings, lane keeping assistance, and detection of vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. Additional features include blind spot monitoring, and the recognition of traffic signs and lights.

These functions are crucial for commercial vehicles frequently navigating busy urban areas and covering more miles than personal cars, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. The platform will support high levels of vehicle autonomy without needing future hardware upgrades.

Sergey Malygin, EVP of Technology at Arrival, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with Ambarella, noting that their AI vision processor delivers the needed performance, stereovision support, and image quality at very low power consumption. This allows Arrival to integrate ADAS features, making commercial vehicle fleets safer and more efficient.

Ambarella’s CV2FS AI vision processor offers an open platform for specialized automotive systems and is geared towards safety-critical applications. With its CVflow AI capabilities and ASIL-B(D) compliance, the processor is ideal for forward-facing monocular and stereo vision ADAS cameras and computer vision ECUs for high-level autonomy.

Fermi Wang, CEO of Ambarella, highlighted Arrival’s potential to revolutionize urban mobility with its integrated transportation ecosystem that includes vehicles, digital tools, and microfactories. He emphasized that Ambarella’s AI-based vision processing helps Arrival meet the growing demands for performance and safety in autonomous vehicles.

Founded in 2015, Arrival is headquartered in London and North Carolina, with over 1900 employees worldwide. The company is setting up its first four microfactories in North Carolina, South Carolina, Bicester (UK), and Madrid (Spain).
