Bentley Cars Now Refuel Themselves with Filld's New Service

Bentley cars in the USA now have a neat trick: they can order petrol all by themselves when the tank runs low, thanks to a mobile app from a company called Filld.

Filld and Bentley are currently testing this service with selected Bentley models in the San Francisco Bay Area and are planning to expand it soon. Filld specializes in delivering petrol directly to cars. Customers use a mobile app available on Android and iOS to place orders, and professionally-trained, commercially-licensed drivers deliver the petrol using DoT-certified safe trucks. Filld keeps the cost competitive by matching the prices of the nearest petrol stations and adding a small delivery fee, usually around $3.

Bentley partnered with Filld in January 2016 to explore this innovative service. The first automated fuel order happened in July with a 2016 Flying Spur, and the trial will continue to grow throughout the autumn.

“Bentley ownership is about more than just the vehicle – it’s the entire luxury experience,” said Christophe Georges, Bentley’s director of product and marketing. “We’re always looking for ways to offer our customers customized, seamless, concierge-style services that give them the greatest luxury of all: more time. Our connected-car strategy will keep expanding and innovating to further enhance the Bentley lifestyle.”

This project required both software and hardware development. When a participating Bentley’s fuel level drops below a quarter tank, it sends an alert to Filld and gets added to their delivery schedule. A Filld driver is then notified of the car’s location and can open the petrol flap upon arrival. Bentley owners can track their petrol orders through their smartphones.

Chris Aubuchon, Filld founder and CTO, said, “Our vision has always been to make our service invisible, automatically filling customers’ tanks so they never have to worry about getting gas again. Thanks to Bentley’s drive for innovation, this is now a reality. We’re thrilled to serve Bentley owners and look forward to expanding our service to other forward-thinking auto enthusiasts.”

So, if you’re a Bentley owner, you can kick back and relax while your car takes care of its own refueling needs.
