Welsh Police Roll Out Cutting-Edge Axon In-Car Cameras
Dyfed-Powys Police in Wales is now the first police force in the UK to use Axon’s in-car camera system, called Axon Fleet 2. They’re installing these cameras in 31 vehicles, which include ones used for armed response and traffic duties.
The police placed the order for these cameras in early 2019, and they received the shipment a few months later.
These Axon Fleet 2 cameras are the first of their kind in the UK. They let officers wirelessly download video evidence straight into Axon’s digital evidence management system, known as Axon Evidence. This system saves officers a lot of time, as they no longer need to manually download videos and burn them onto discs. Instead, the footage is uploaded instantly.
Some key features of this technology include:
– High-definition video with a wide field of view, zoom features, an infra-red camera for the back seat, and wireless microphone integration.
– Axon View XL, a mobile data terminal app that makes tagging and uploading videos quick and easy.
– The ability to categorize, playback, and share videos along with other digital files in Axon Evidence.
– Multi-cam playback, allowing up to four videos (including body-worn and in-car footage) to be reviewed simultaneously.
– Fast installation and quick remote troubleshooting.
– Compliance with privacy regulations.
Catherine Davies, the project manager for the introduction of Axon Fleet 2 at Dyfed-Powys Police, explained, “With in-car video, our officers have an additional pair of eyes at road incidents and during pursuits. It provides live evidence of traffic offenses and helps protect our officers, especially when transporting prisoners or patrolling alone.”
Axon, a network of devices, applications, and people, aims to make law enforcement smarter and safer. Globally, more than 371,100 software seats are used on the Axon network.
