Infineon's Angle Sensor: Precision Meets Stray Field Immunity

Infineon has launched a new family of angle sensors designed to be highly accurate and immune to stray magnetic fields, making them ideal for critical automotive systems like electric power steering and vehicle height adjustment.

The Xensiv TLE49SR sensors can handle stray magnetic fields up to 8mT, surpassing the ISO 11452-8 level IV standards for hybrid and electric vehicles, which require handling 4kA/m (or 5mT). This capability eliminates the need for additional external shielding.

These sensors are incredibly precise, with an angle error of less than 1˚. By using a look-up table and employing multi-point calibration (16 variable and 32 equidistant points), the angle error can be further reduced to below 0.5˚. This ensures accuracy even in situations where there might be mechanical misalignments during manufacturing.

Developed following ISO 26262 standards, these sensors are considered safety elements out of context. They meet the Asil-C metric at the component level, allowing system designs to achieve functional safety levels up to Asil D.

The first products in this family are now available and come with PWM, Sent, or SPC interfaces. They are packaged in a TDSO-8 format for surface mounting.
